What To Budget When Selecting Wholesale Costume Jewelry

It almost goes without saying, but it never hurts to remind ourselves of the importance of maintaining a profitable wholesale costume jewelry budget. The keyword here is "profitable" because as a wholesale costume jewelry seller, the total value of your sales must exceed the total value of your expenses if you expect to succeed. Therefore before spending money on new wholesale costume jewelry or restocking what you've already sold, you should take time out to asses your finances first - then go on to make a couple of important choices.

One of the first things you need to determine is the ROI on the wholesale costume jewelry that you want to buy or restock. This isn't always easy to discern, but if you've purchased the same kind before, then you have a measurable gauge to follow. From a record of previously sold wholesale costume jewelry, you can quickly determine if they're worth restocking. Without such a record, you'll take a risk. If you're interested in wholesale costume jewelry that you've never sold before, start by ordering the smallest quantity allowed so you don't suffer too much of a loss in the event that resulting sales are minimum or none at all.

Another thing you'll want to determine is the size of the target market in which the wholesale costume jewelry will or could attract. The size of this market will definitely influence the ROI on the wholesale costume jewelry that you're interested in adding and it would be a mistake to make a budget without first assessing projected sales. This step is different from the step described above because target markets grow and shrink from advertising or relocating to a new place.

Timing plays an additional factor in the salability of wholesale costume jewelry as well because if introduced at the wrong time, sales will again, be minimal or none at all. Seasonal pieces can have a tremendous effect on the size of a budget and again, if you have past records, by all means use them to determine whether restocking or making a new purchase is sensible.

After making the described assessments, you can begin making a spending plan. This spending plan should accurately reflect past performance, and it should be rather conservative so that it allows room for growth. Growth in spending is a good thing as long as that profit column has a value at least three to four times higher than the expenditure column!

However don't be alarmed if after a while your finances appear to be all over the place. It's not unusual to experience fluctuations within a budget even when that budget is spread across only a month's time. Fluctuations are normal, however with proper documentation, you can easily determine what caused those fluctuations, and work to either prevent these causes from occurring in the future (if the change is negative) or permit them to continue on (if the change is positive).
